Our History and Our Family Tradition
In the early 50's as an Italian - American growing up on the west side of Chicago on Taylor and Bishop (what is known as Little Italy) Daniel Nava sr. could not avoid the aromas and culture of food that surrounded him. He heard stories of his mothers parents making ends meet by selling sandwiches and hard boiled eggs in their tavern to other working folks on their way to their factory jobs in the early 1930's.

Dan's future wife's family would invite him over to Sunday lunches, which included an array of Italian sandwiches, whose ingredients stemmed from the local Italian Deli's and bakeries in their neighborhood. The smells of the freshly baked bread, the layering of meats and cheeses and crisp vegetables, and of course the oils, vinegars and spices. These traditions that he experienced made it important for him to pass on to all of his children.

Following his heart, in 1993, Dan Nava Sr. purchased an existing sub shop in Glenview IL. Dan grew his business by providing quality service and food products and by incorporating the recipes and traditions from the past. His Three sons, Dan, Chris, and Andrew, became partners in the business as well.

By 2001, Famo's had outgrown the first location and moved into a 2,400 sq ft facility. When you visit Famo's today you feel as if you are transported back to the early days on Taylor and Bishop. Each customer is invited to enjoy the family pictures and old time memorabilia covering the walls and ceiling at Famo's.
